bespoke fastlane turnstiles Toei Animation Japan

Creative customisations for Japanese animation studio

Security threats are increasing and evolving rapidly around the globe and, with this, the demand for entrance control systems to manage and monitor the flow of people in office environments has risen. Organisations want their employees to feel safe in their places of work but, also – in mixed use buildings – access to restricted areas needs to be closely controlled.

Working with Yonei & Co, our sole Fastlane distributor in Japan, we supplied eight lanes of customised Glassgate 200 turnstiles for installation at Toei Animation’s new studio in Tokyo, one of the largest animation studios in Japan.

When building their new production studio, increasing security measures and managing pedestrian access was high on the agenda as the new studio is required to fulfil a dual purpose – a functioning office and a public gallery. On the ground floor there is a gallery which showcases the company’s history and works, and the public are permitted access to this area once they have signed in at reception. Other floors are used as an office by the animation company, to which only authorised personnel are granted access.

Fastlane turnstiles with card reader integration Toei Animation JapanTo reflect Toei Animation’s brand and personality, it was important to strike the right balance between security and entertainment. We created customised turnstiles which feature their logo – Pero, the main character of “Puss ‘n Boots” who is one of Toei Animation’s most famous characters, silk screened onto the decorative tops. This unique feature helps to welcome staff and business partners, presenting a great first impression of the company. Other customisations include integrated IC card readers for staff use and barcode readers for business partners, and the extended ends and heightened chassis required to accommodate these integrations.

Delivery time for this project was tight, especially with the level of customisation required. Commenting on this project, Yumika Mitomo, Salesperson of Visual & Control System Department at Yonei, said: “This was a very special project for us, as well as the client and construction company. We are very proud that this high-profile animation studio chose Yonei to provide the bespoke entrance control turnstiles for this project. It was great to work with IDL, who were able to accommodate the client’s need for customisation and deliver within the tight schedule. The client and construction company was so proud of the end result that they hosted a studio tour and party on completion of the project, to display their work. We had a great time celebrating the success of this project.”

Tony Smith, Major Accounts and Marketing Manager, at Integrated Design Limited, adds: “End users in Japan really do benefit from our exclusive partnership with Yonei – we supply the reliable, high quality entrance control products and Yonei provide the first-class project consultation, installation and customer service. We look forward to many more collaborative projects like this in the future.”
