Seamless security and accessibility: Why choose Fastlane turnstiles for your leisure facility
Gyms and leisure centres are dynamic spaces, often providing a range of facilities and increasingly offering services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With a constant flow of traffic, fluctuating peak and quiet periods, and visitors with different access needs, leisure facilities require an entrance control system that can manage high volumes of traffic while offering users ease of access and peace of mind, safety and security.
IDL frequently partners with installer Alternative Systems Protection (ASP) for leisure projects. We share a belief that usability and durability go hand-in-hand, offering clients long-term reliability and return on investment. ASP carefully select hardware that stands the test of time, ensuring that when properly serviced, it lasts for many years. ASP often recommend Fastlane turnstiles to their clients due to the quality of our products and the support services we offer throughout a project, as well as our shared commitment to providing excellent customer service.
ASP National Development Manager, Derek Cardno, emphasises this:
”When selecting an entrance control turnstile for a client operating in the leisure industry, we need to be sure the solution is reliable, robust, safe for use – especially for child entry– and also has the capability to accommodate integrations such as footfall counting.”
Fastlane turnstiles are designed to strike this balance, delivering robust entrance control while ensuring a seamless and positive user experience.
These two recently completed projects highlight why ASP recommends IDL products to clients:
Ffit Conwy (Conwy County Borough Council)
ASP recently completed a gym project in Wales, choosing state-of-the-art Fastlane Speedgates complete with RFID readers and touch screens, enhancing security and streamlining access for members.
The two Fastlane Glassgate 150 models installed have dual glass swing barriers, with one standard lane width of 660mm and the other offering a wider width of 914mm to provide disabled access, compliant with the equality act (Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) regulations).
This tailored solution ensures quick, secure entry and allows for real-time monitoring and data collection, providing our client with better control over foot traffic. The combination of advanced RFID technology and user-friendly touch screens creates a seamless, efficient experience for all users.
By installing the Speedgates on floor plates, ASP avoided the need for drilling, ensuring there was no damage to underfloor heating systems or any impact on the integrity of the building – especially crucial for listed properties.
Kingsmead Leisure Centre, Canterbury (Active Life Ltd)
In Canterbury, ASP again chose Fastlane turnstiles for a leisure centre. This upgrade features two standard-width Glassgate 200 lanes and one wider DDA-compliant lane, ensuring accessibility for all users. Each lane has 1.8m high glass barriers, and ASP’s team has also installed two bespoke glass balustrades to block unauthorised access, creating a sleek and secure entry point.
Each lane is equipped with advanced RFID scanners from Third Millennium which seamlessly integrate with the existing leisure management system, provided by Gladstone Software, enhancing operational efficiency and user experience.
Fastlane’s DDA-compliant turnstiles offer wide and comfortable lanes for users with reduced mobility and service personnel. They are perfect for wheelchair access, prams, trolleys, sports equipment and large deliveries.
Why choose Fastlane Turnstiles to secure your sports facility?
As Grant Mclean, Managing Director at ASP explains:
“Fastlane turnstiles offer simple, cost-effective and secure entrance control for leisure environments, while guaranteeing equal access for all users and improving their experience. Furthermore, IDL’s turnstiles are available with a range of customisation options – including different heights, finishes, integrations, etc. – so can be tailored to suit different building entrance ways, blending with a facilities’ design and aesthetic.”
