The advantages of using BIM
The interest and take up of BIM (Building Information Modelling) is growing rapidly, but what are the advantages of BIM for those working in design and construction, the built environment, and maintenance and management of facilities?
To ensure that we provide easy access to data on our products, in a format which is compatible and accessible for our architect and specifier customers, our Fastlane pedestrian entrance control products are included in the NBS National BIM Library, and will soon be available on BIMObject for our export customers.
Both libraries host a comprehensive collection of BIM objects, ranging from building fabric systems to mechanical and electrical objects, now including the bestselling Optical, Speedgate, Passgate and Barrier Arm products from our Fastlane Turnstiles range. This means that 3D formats of key products from the range will be available for specifiers to download free of charge, for inclusion in BIM.
Data held about the products included in these libraries, the standardisation of digital assets and integration with BIM software, makes comparison of products much simpler and therefore speeds up the specification process for architects and specifiers.
Having free access to detailed virtual products provides a clear picture on their construction, and the ability to create a virtual builds demonstrates how they will function alongside other products in new or existing environments. This understanding, gained at the early stages of the design or refit process, allows for identification of any clashes, meaning that any mistakes can be rectified before work commences on site, improving effectiveness and efficiency throughout the build process.
