Glassgate secures multi tenanted 35 Portman Square, London
W1 |
|
Fastlane
Glassgate speedgates, from Integrated Design have been installed
at 35 Portman Square, London W1, as part of the building
refurbishment of this multi-tenanted 67,578 sqft (6,278
sqm) prestigious office building. |
A
plan was drawn up to provide a security system in the
reception hall to the main entrance to the building, limiting
access to only authorised occupants and visitors.
As such a card swipe access control system and turnstiles
were required integral with the door entry control systems
throughout the building. Key issues under consideration
were the need to install a user friendly entry system
for both ambulant and disabled people whilst maintaining
the aesthetic nature of the main entrance, as the
design team wanted to retain the open feel, yet
maximise the space available to provide three lanes, including
a double width DDA (UK Disability & Discrimination
Act) central lane.
Fastlane
Glassgates were recommended as the Glassgate has a glass
barrier which operates in a user friendly ‘door
like motion’ allowing for quick acceptance by new
users. The system was integrated seamlessly with the access
control system used through out the building further easing
the user acceptance of the new system, and the more secure
higher version of the barrier was chosen to prevent vaulting
over the pedestals.

|
|
The
Fastlane Glassgate is a state of the art speedgate that
combines IR detection sensors for tailgate detection and
glass barriers to control access. The Glassgate’s
bi-directional swinging glass barrier intelligently control
traffic flow whilst maximising throughput and the IR tailgate
detection offers excellent protection against intruders.
|
| |
As
a DDA width lane was required, the Glassgate comes with
a single barrier for standard lanes and a double barrier
lane was added to the system to create a wider passage for
DDA compliance. This is the first time the DDA lane was
installed in the middle of the bank of lanes, adding to
the design and making it a feature.
|
Safety
beams monitor the area near the barrier; if an object is
detected in the path of the barriers, they slow to a crawl
until the obstruction is removed. The Fastlane Glassgate
can integrate with a fire alarm system so that in an emergency
the barriers automatically open in the exit direction to
allow for free emergency egress. In a power failure, the
barriers can be gently pushed out of the way.
|
“The
Fastlane Glassgate entry barriers are an important part
of the security regime installed in our office building
at 35 Portman Square, London W1 to prevent unauthorised
entry without imposing on the design of our main reception
but at the same time maintaining an easy user friendly swipe
card system which is very important in multi tenant properties”
Said Richard Ashby, Managing Director of Portman Square
Properties Ltd.

Way of Beating Fastlane's Tailgate Detection System |
| There
is now one way of beating Fastlane Clearstyle optical turnstiles
from Integrated Design… go round the outside. Alain
Robert amazed thousands of fans by climbing The Investment
Authority Building in Abu Dhabi, with his bare hands! The
Frenchman dubbed ‘Spiderman’ scaled Abu Dhabi’s
tallest building at 185 m high, using slots in the concrete
for grip in just 1 hour 3 minutes.
Now,
that’s one way of beating the building’s high
tech security system… he must have heard about the
Clearstyle optical turnstiles creating a secure perimeter
inside the building’s reception. Having realised there
was no way of getting through the infra-red beams that detect
tailgaters without a valid access card, he tried another
way. Someone should have told him about the fast throughput
of the Clearstyle of upto 1 person per second, slightly
quicker than the 1 hour and 3 minutes, though admittedly
not quite as spectacular.
|
|
| Fastlane
Clearstyle has redefined the optical turnstile category,
by providing the most discreet security possible and exceeding
the most demanding architects’ design requirements.
|
| Does
your current security system do this? |
| Fastlane
is renowned for its superior performance, aesthetics and
speed of throughput. One of the key issues in choosing an
entrance control solution should be low false alarms rates.
Many other competing systems get false alarms from an arm
being waved in front of the IR sensors which can cause false
activation of the barriers which may increase the risk of
injury. These video clips demonstrate how Fastlane uses
its advanced intelligence to ignore this typical empty wheelchair
but detects it when the wheelchair is occupied. If Fastlane
can ignore as complicated an object as an empty wheelchair
imagine the reliable performance is could offer typical
lobby applications. Fastlane is designed to provide the
safest, most secure and fastest range of optical turnstiles,
speedgates and barrier arm optical turnstiles on the market
today.

This
clip shows someone push an empty wheelchair through
a Fastlane plus and it is ignored but when
the person walks through without authorisation the
system alarms. |

Fastlane Glasswing -1 Authorised user and an empty
wheelchair. |
|
This
clip shows someone push an empty wheelchair through
a Fastlane Glasswing. As they are authorised and the
wheelchair is empty only one access authorisation
is required. The Fastlane Glasswing sees the person
pushing the wheelchair but ignores the wheelchair
as it is empty. Therefore no alarm event is generated. |

Fastlane plus - 1 authorised user and 1 unauthorised
tailgater. |

This
clip shows someone push an occupied wheelchair through
a Fastlane plus. As there are 2 persons passing
through the system there should have been 2 access
authorisations. As there was only one access authorisation
an alarm event is created. |

no alarm event is generated. |

| John
brings in Fastlane order in 9.57 seconds... |
Well
not quite that fast... but impressive none the less. John
Austin has recently filled Simon Borns' shoes at IDL, as
Simon moved on to start a new life on a farm in 'sunny'
Wales. He will be looking after the London area. |
|
John
is more at home racing down runways on his drag bike at
weekends at 0-163 in 9.57 seconds (as opposed to bringing
in orders that fast!). John is also the lead singer in a
Rock & Blues band, Roadhouse. |
John
brings with him over 7 years experience in the security
industry which he moved into after being a professional
DJ at such places as Ministry of Sound. |

doubles production capacity |
|
Integrated
Design Ltd announced today that their production capacity
has doubled, owing to the dramatic increase in demand
for the Fastlane entrance control range of security solutions.
Doubling
the capacity has been possible due to new units being
taken over at Littleton House, in Ashford, UK, to allow
for Integrated Design to continue completing orders on
time and to the same excellent ISO 9001 quality standards.
To help make good use of this new space, the number of
production staff has also increased to keep on top of
the increasing sales forecasts.
|
Along
with the increase in floor space, the Fastlane range is
also expanding with exciting new additions to the product
range in development, including the Fastlane Glasswing 1200
with a higher physical barrier to deter unauthorised users
vaulting the pedestals. |
“With
sales of Fastlane products having doubled over the last
few years, the need to react and expand the capacity of
the company to allow IDL to continue to offer the fast delivery
time and excellent level of service our customers expect
was paramount.” Said Phil Coombes, Production Director
at IDL. |

flies back from... Security Show Japan |
| March
saw the Security Show in Japan, and Fastlane was represented
there by both SecurityGate Japan, and Yonei. Michael Bystram
from IDL, flew out to help out on the stands. Pictured is

drives back from... IFSEC |

Last
month saw another year at IFSEC at the NEC in Birmingham
with IDL launching 2 new variants of the Fastlane Glasswing,
the 1.2m high barrier, and the narrower pedestal variant
with a smaller footprint. This year's show was a lot larger
than that of previous years, with the inclusion of 2 new
halls. Integrated Design was on stand 23235 and saw a fair
few people at the show, Jalil Neghza in Export Sales was
extremely busy indeed.
